The Rolwaling Region Trek is an adventurous journey into one of Nepal’s most remote Himalayan valleys, combining traditional Sherpa culture, dramatic mountain landscapes, glacial lakes, and a challenging high-altitude crossing into the Khumbu region.
Beginning with a drive from Kathmandu toward Dolakha, the trail leads through forested hills, river valleys, and mountain settlements beneath the magnificent Gauri Shankar massif. As you travel deeper into Rolwaling, discover the traditional Sherpa villages of Beding and Na, where mountain life and Buddhist cultural heritage remain closely connected to the surrounding landscape.
A major highlight is Tsho Rolpa, a spectacular glacial lake set amid rugged alpine terrain. Beyond the lake, the journey becomes increasingly demanding as the trail approaches Tashi Lapcha Pass at approximately 5,755 metres. This high-altitude crossing requires excellent preparation, acclimatisation, suitable technical equipment, and experienced mountain support.
After crossing the pass, descend toward Thame and continue into the Khumbu region, with its distinctive Himalayan scenery and Sherpa settlements. The trek concludes in Lukla, from where you return to Kathmandu by flight, subject to operating conditions.
The Rolwaling Region Trek is designed for experienced trekkers seeking a remote Himalayan expedition beyond Nepal’s conventional trekking routes. It offers a rewarding combination of wilderness, culture, glacial landscapes, and high-mountain adventure.
Important: Tashi Lapcha Pass is a demanding technical crossing. The route, camps, and crossing schedule must be confirmed by the expedition leader according to weather, snow and glacier conditions, group experience, and safety requirements.
